State Sector Strategies: An Overview

While local areas are charged with implementing sector partnerships around their regional economies to meet their local labor needs, the role of the states is very different. A state’s role in a sector strategy is to create the conditions under which the local sector partnerships can flourish.

- [NEW] State Support for Sector Partnerships: A Guide for Action: While no two states’ approaches for supporting sector partnerships will look the same, there exists a set of core “capabilities” that states need to play a meaningful role in their success and long-term sustainability.

- State level self-assessment: States developing and participating in a sector strategy should take this self-assessment to help determine where they have made the most progress in that strategy, but also what areas may be improved.
- State Sector Strategies Coming of Age: Implications for State Workforce Policymakers: Offers an overall snapshot of sector strategies, including a model for building industry partnerships and the kinds of benefits for businesses, workers and the workforce system that are inherent within sector-based programs.
